BBT thermometer that functions beyond just this one purpose
I learned how to track my BBT in 8th grade, thanks to my aunt who taught classes on it in family planning/marriage classes (some places have classes to prepare couples for married life, run by the Catholic church). It’s been a while since I’d done it in recent years; however, I do recall my old digital BBT thermometer was designed to ONLY track that and was capped above a certain temperature.This one can do both – track your BBT as well as average/waking body temperature and fevers. Considering I’m at the age where perimenopause begins, I decided I’d go ahead and track it for a short while to see if the weird fluctuations show up on the chart. However, once I no longer need to do so, having a thermometer that functions outside of just that purpose is very useful.If you plan to hit “snooze” after taking your reading, it will save your last reading in the thermometer, which flashes quickly (6 seconds) before you see “Lo” to begin a new reading. That way you can check back and log your temperature. There’s supposedly an app; however, a graph paper notebook or journal is more than sufficient and will last you a very long time. If you’re just getting started with BBT tracking – which I think everyone who needs to track this should learn how to do as soon as they experience their menarche – pick out a pretty journal with graph paper and learn to make your own charts. Make this a daily habit to know what’s going on in your body – it’s not just for family planning and ovulation tracking. It’s a great period tracker, too.I knocked the star off because of the unnecessarily long beeping time at the end. 1.5 seconds of beeping is a bit much, especially if you’re an early riser and your spouse is still asleep. It isn’t loud, per se, but it seems loud when you first wake up and would absolutely wake a light sleeper. Muffling it between the pillow and blanket seems to be enough to avoid waking anyone up. I’m also not sure why the pamphlet suggests keeping it in your mouth for an additional 30 seconds after it has recorded your temp. In any case, 1.5 seconds would’ve been better to see your last recorded temp, and 6 seconds of beeping would’ve been better to mark the end of checking the temperature.

(Of course I have nothing medical-grade to compare against to determine actual accuracy at this precision.)I takes 90 seconds before it beeps to indicate the reading is complete – but the instructions say you should keep it in your mouth for another 30 seconds for a fully accurate reading. This is a pretty long time.The tiny button battery is easily accessed by pulling off the rear of the case. It’s secured, press-fit, by a silicone ring.

90-120 second response time for accurate temperature; Would not recommend for a child
I love the pinpoint accuracy of the thermometer but knowing that it takes 90 seconds and then the instructions recommend waiting another 30 seconds (120 seconds / 2 minutes total) does not make this ideal for younger kids expecting them to sit still and keep it under their tongue the entire time. The accuracy was within .1 degrees of another thermometer we have. It will also store the last temperature reading taken making for easier comparisons especially when you have a little one that is sick and trying to keep track of whether their temperature is increasing or not. The lavender-ish tip is soft and flexible making it not as uncomfortable while under your tongue. I do love that it comes with a full size case ensuring dust and other debris doesn’t get on it while it is in storage.The battery… sheesh. While you may not have to replace the battery often for a device like this, I’m not a huge fan of the design. The top of the thermometer has a top that pops off. It doesn’t have any groves or notches to help get it off easy but if you have your fingertips in the slit you can get it off. You have to pull out the battery chamber which is connected to the circuit board but you can’t full pull it out because of the wiring inside leading to the thermometer tip. So you have to careful use your fingertip to kind of force the battery out. I wouldn’t recommend using anything else do you don’t accidentally damage the circuit board. You can then replace the LR41 battery, hold the board from the side, insert a new battery, and then carefully push the battery chamber back inside the thermometer. It’s not exactly the most efficient design.Overall, if you are using it for adult usage and are patient, it provides accurate readings but if you are expecting to use it for a young child, I’d recommend looking at something that provides readings within seconds instead.
